Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What happens once I make an appointment?
All clients will be provided with an 'Intake Information Form' to complete prior to their initial assessment. Please bring the completed form with you on the day of the initial assessment (this will ensure you and your child get the most out of your first consultation).
Q: What do I do if my child has already had an assessment with another speech pathologist?
If your child has a current in depth speech pathology assessment report that was written in the last 12 months, by another speech pathologist, and you feel it is representative of where their skills are at, an initial consultation appointment can be arranged. Please bring along a copy of the current speech pathology report as well as any other reports you have from health professionals or education staff. If your child has complex needs they may require further assessment.
Q: What do I do if my child has seen a speech pathologist in the past but doesn't have a report?
If your child does not have a current in depth speech pathology report they will require an initial assessment appointment. If you are able to bring along any past reports (e.g. therapy, medical, hearing reports), this is always helpful.
Q: Are there any government rebates available?
Yes, you can ask your GP if your child is eligible for a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan also known as an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Plan. Medicare rebates typically only cover part of the full cost of a session - a gap payment is payable at the time of the appointment. If you have Private Health, it is also worth checking if you have cover for speech pathology services and how much of the fee they will cover.
